In short
- Mountain Bike Guides is a free directory. We help riders find guides, but we are not a tour operator and we are not part of any agreement between a rider and a guide.
- Guides must be certified, at least 18, and keep their listing accurate and lawful. Guides are responsible for getting any permission needed to ride on public or private land.
- Guides and businesses are responsible for everything they publish, and we are not responsible for information or photos provided by users. Riders book, pay and agree everything directly with the guide.
- Mountain biking has risks. Ride within your limits and make sure you are properly insured.
1. About these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) apply to your use of mtb-guides.com (“Mountain Bike Guides”, “the website”, “we”, “us”), which is run by a private individual based in Greece. By using the website, sending an enquiry or creating an account, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the website.
2. What we do (and don’t do)
Mountain Bike Guides is an online directory where independent mountain bike guides, schools and related businesses (“guides”) present their services, and where riders can find them and contact them.
- We do not organise, sell or run any tours, lessons or rentals.
- We are not a party to any agreement between a rider and a guide, and we are not an agent of either.
- We do not handle bookings or payments.
- Guides are independent and are solely responsible for their services, prices, safety, permits, insurance and compliance with the law.
3. Who can use the website
Anyone may browse the website. To create a guide account you must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a contract. If you register on behalf of a business, you confirm that you are authorised to act for it.
4. Guide accounts and listings
Your account
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your login details safe. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has accessed it.
- One person or business per account. The dashboard shows how many listings each account may have.
Certified guides only
Listings are for certified mountain bike guides and guiding businesses, and for related services we accept (such as bike schools, parks, rentals and accommodation). We may ask for proof of certification or business details, and we may refuse, hide or remove a listing if we cannot verify it.
Accurate and lawful listings
Your listing must describe real services you are allowed to offer, at the location shown, with honest prices, qualifications and photos. You are responsible for holding all licences, permits and insurance your activities require.
Land access and permissions
In many places, trails, forest tracks and dirt roads cross public or private land where riding needs permission from the landowner, land manager or local authority, and local rules may limit where and when bikes are allowed. Guides and businesses alone are responsible for knowing these rules and for getting every permission, permit and access agreement needed for the routes they use, before taking riders there.
Mountain Bike Guides does not check land access and does not grant or arrange permission to use any land. We are not responsible for trespass, damage to land or property, fines, or disputes with landowners or authorities arising from a guide’s activities. A listing on our website does not mean that a guide has permission to ride in any area. We may hide or remove a listing if we learn that a guide is riding without the permission they need.
Claiming a listing
If your business is already listed, you may claim it. You must only claim a listing that you own or are authorised to manage. We may ask for proof and may refuse a claim.
5. Your content and our licence
You keep ownership of the text, photos, videos and other material you add (“your content”). You confirm that you own it or have permission to use it, and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights, including copyright and the privacy of people shown in photos.
You give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, display, reproduce, adapt (for example resize or crop) and share your content on the website and in our promotion of the website, including on social media, for as long as your content is on the website. This licence ends when you remove the content or delete your account, except for copies already shared publicly or kept in backups for a limited time.
Content must not be unlawful, misleading, defamatory, hateful, sexually explicit, or contain spam, malware or other people’s personal data without their permission.
You are solely responsible for the photos, videos, text and other material you upload. We do not check whether uploaded material is protected by copyright or other rights, and we accept no responsibility or liability for any infringement of copyright or other rights caused by content uploaded by users. If you believe that a photo or other content on the website infringes your rights, please use the “Report this listing” link on the listing page or contact us, and we will remove it promptly once we have checked the report.
6. Enquiries, bookings and payments
- When you send an enquiry, we pass it to the guide. The guide replies to you directly.
- Any booking, price, payment, cancellation or refund is agreed between you and the guide, under the guide’s own terms. Please read them before you book.
- Guides must use enquiry data only to answer the enquiry and provide their services, and must protect it in line with data protection law.
- Please do not use the enquiry form for advertising, spam or any purpose other than a genuine enquiry.
7. Reviews
Reviews help riders choose. A review must describe your own, genuine experience with the guide. You must not review your own business, write reviews in exchange for payment or benefits, or post false, offensive or unlawful content. We check reviews before they appear and may refuse, edit for formatting, or remove reviews that break these rules. Guides may not pressure riders to change or remove honest reviews.
8. Acceptable use
You must not:
- break the law or encourage others to do so;
- copy, scrape or collect data from the website in bulk, including guides’ contact details, without our written permission;
- send spam or unsolicited marketing to guides or riders;
- try to gain unauthorised access to the website, other accounts or our systems, or interfere with the website’s operation;
- impersonate someone else or misrepresent your connection with a business.
9. Moderation, suspension and deletion
We may review, edit, correct, hide or remove any listing or content, and suspend or close any account, at any time and without prior notice, if we believe that it does not comply with these Terms, our listing rules or the spirit and values of Mountain Bike Guides, if information cannot be verified, or to protect riders, guides or the website. This includes making changes to a listing without warning, for example correcting a wrong address, listing type, contact detail or description. Where appropriate we will tell you why, but we are not obliged to.
If you think a listing is false, misleading, infringes your rights or breaks these Terms, please use the “Report this listing” link at the bottom of the listing page. We review every report, but we decide at our own discretion what action, if any, to take.
You can stop using the website at any time. Guides can delete their account and all their data at any time from their dashboard, as described in our Privacy Policy.
10. Fees
Using the website and listing your business are currently free of charge. We may introduce optional paid features in the future, such as extra listings or featured placement. We will announce any paid features in advance and they will only apply if you choose them. Existing free features will not become paid without notice.
11. Mountain biking risks
Mountain biking is an activity with inherent risks, including serious injury. You are responsible for choosing activities that suit your fitness and skill, using appropriate equipment and protection, following your guide’s instructions and local rules, and having suitable insurance, including health, accident and, where relevant, rescue cover.
12. Disclaimer
Listings, reviews and other content are provided by guides and users. We check some information, such as certification, where we can, but we cannot guarantee that all content is complete, accurate or up to date, or that a guide’s services meet your expectations. The website is provided “as is” and “as available”; we do not guarantee that it will always be available or error-free.
All content on the website that is provided or uploaded by users, including listings, descriptions, qualifications, prices, photos, videos, reviews and messages, is the sole responsibility of the user who provided it. Listings may also be based on a business’s own public information until they claim their listing. Mountain Bike Guides does not check all of this content and accepts no responsibility or liability for any information provided by users that is false, inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, unlawful or infringes the rights of others, or for any loss or damage that results from relying on it. Always confirm important details, such as prices, qualifications, insurance and safety arrangements, directly with the guide or business before you book.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for: the services, acts or omissions of guides or riders; any agreement, payment or dispute between them; injury, loss or damage arising from activities arranged through the website; or indirect losses such as loss of profit, business or data.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any liability that cannot be limited under Greek or EU law. If you are a consumer, you keep all the rights given to you by mandatory consumer protection law.
14. Our website and brand
The website’s design, text, logo, name “Mountain Bike Guides” and software, other than content provided by guides and users, belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy or use them for commercial purposes without our written permission. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors.
15. Third-party services and links
The website links to guides’ own websites and social media, and lets you sign in with Google or Facebook. These services are run by others under their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If the changes are significant, we will tell registered guides in advance by email or on the website. If you keep using the website after the changes take effect, the new Terms apply.
17. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Greek law. Please contact us first so we can try to solve any problem informally. If we cannot, disputes will be decided by the competent courts of Greece. If you are a consumer living in another EU country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and may bring a claim in its courts.
