Trail Rippers – MTB Lessons in Golden, BC
Progressive, skill-based mountain bike lessons for Golden’s kids
About
Looking for mtb lessons in Golden? Trail Rippers is a qualified local team that knows the trails around Golden inside out.
Trail Rippers specialises in kids mtb lessons Golden families can count on, helping young riders build real trail skills in one of BC’s great mountain bike towns. Launched in 2025, this small local coaching business runs progressive group sessions for children and offers private lessons for both kids and adults.
Trail Rippers is led by head coach and founder Marie, who holds PMBIA Level 1 certification (Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association), 40-hour Wilderness First Aid and a criminal record check. Before starting her own business she spent two seasons as a lead and tail guide with the Golden Cycling Club’s Learn to Ride camp, so she knows the local trails and how children learn on them.
What they offer
- Beginner sessions – balance, braking and gears on flat, friendly terrain.
- Experienced Beginner sessions – moving onto easy green and some blue trails.
- Intermediate sessions – more control and flow on most green and blue trails.
- Private lessons – one-to-one coaching for kids and adults, built around your goals and schedule.
- Small groups – a maximum of five kids per coach.
Lessons focus on fundamentals done well. Kids learn how to stand on the pedals, look ahead, brake smoothly and shift gears at the right moment, before moving on to roots, rocks and small features. Sessions are skill-based rather than age-based, so riders join the level that suits them, and the small groups mean every child gets plenty of attention. Parents can also sign up for a free email series on riding as a family.
The riding around Golden
- Moonraker Trail System – a large network of flowy singletrack on the benches above the Columbia River.
- Mount 7 – Golden’s legendary descent mountain, known for big, steep downhill riding.
- Rotary Trail – an easy, scenic route through town, ideal for beginners and families.
When to ride
Golden’s riding season usually runs from late spring into autumn, depending on snow. Trail Rippers adds new group sessions each season, including autumn sessions, so check the coaching page for what is currently open. Late spring sessions focus on rebuilding confidence after winter, while summer and autumn are ideal for moving up to blue trails. Snow can linger on higher trails into June, so lessons start on the lower, sunnier networks close to town.
Golden is also a fine base for families who want to ride together. The town has easy trails close to the centre, a skills park, and plenty of non-riding activities for rest days. Trail Rippers also publishes a directory of Kootenay trails, bike shops and skills parks, as well as ride reports and technique guides on its blog – useful reading before your trip.
Getting to Golden
