Bikepark Valbirse – Lift-Served Bike Park in Malleray, Bernese Jura, Switzerland
Switzerland's first ski lift that carries mountain bikes
About
Bikepark Valbirse is a small, community-built bike park in Malleray, in the municipality of Valbirse in the Bernese Jura, Switzerland, just north of Biel/Bienne. It is home to a Swiss first: the village’s old Orvales ski lift was upgraded so that, since 2023, it carries mountain bikes uphill – riders simply hook their bike onto the lift and ride up beside it.
Riding at Bikepark Valbirse
A group of local riders saved the lift from closure and, together with the municipality and the local community, built three trails graded like ski runs:
- Blue trail – suitable for beginners and families
- Red trail – flowing fun for progressing riders
- Black trail – for experienced and skilled riders
The trails were shaped by renowned builders including Flying Metal, Nico Vink and the Battcrew. The 350 m lift sits at around 800 m above sea level, just above the village, and there is a picnic area at the park.
