About

Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, about an hour south of Anchorage, runs a summer bike park on its slopes above Turnagain Arm. Alyeska Bike Park is lift-served and is one of the few places in Alaska to ride downhill trails by chairlift.

Tickets

A full mountain day ticket is $50, and a lower mountain ticket is $40. An uphill ticket for riders who pedal up costs $10. A downhill season pass was listed at $279, and an uphill season pass at $50. Riders must be 8 or older, and helmets are required for everyone.

Rentals and lessons

The resort rents full-suspension downhill and freeride bikes, such as the Kona Operator and Stinky 24, with pads for $100. Bike damage insurance is extra. Riders under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign. Introductory lessons and beginner terrain are available for new riders.

The setting

Girdwood sits in a temperate rainforest surrounded by glaciers and peaks. The bike park makes a good day trip from Anchorage or a stop on the way to the Kenai Peninsula.
