About

Looking for a bike hotel in Torbole? Aktivhotel Santalucia is set up for mountain bikers, with secure bike storage, a bike wash, a workshop with tools, e-bike charging, bike rental, guided rides or shuttles and laundry for riding kit.

Aktivhotel Santalucia sits on the quiet edge of Torbole, at the northern tip of Lake Garda, and is run with active guests firmly in mind. Mountain bikers, road cyclists and triathletes all feel at home here, and the team speak German, Italian and English.

Bikes are well looked after: there is a mountain bike garage with free security locks, a video-monitored storage room, and a professional wash system to get the Garda dust off. A small workshop and repair kit cover roadside fixes, e-bikes can be charged in the garage, and rental bikes are available at a discount. The hotel also runs guided rides with trained guides, a daily bike shuttle up to classics such as Tremalzo and Monte Baldo, and a laundry service for riding kit.

Torbole is one of the best-known bases in the Alps for mountain biking, with rocky enduro descents, panoramic all-mountain loops and steep climbs right above the lake. Staying here means the shuttle does the hard work while you save your legs for the trails, and certified local guides can show you the routes that suit your riding.

Best rides from Torbole

  • Sentiero 601 from Monte Altissimo – the area’s most famous descent: over 2,000 m of rough, rocky singletrack from Rifugio Damiano Chiesa back down towards Nago and Torbole. Experienced riders only; most arrive by a long climb or a shuttle.
  • Passo Tremalzo – the classic old military road over a 1,845 m pass, usually started from Lake Ledro with about 1,500 m of climbing and a loose, technical way down. Medium level, big day out.
  • Strada del Ponale – about 10 km of old road carved into the cliffs from Riva del Garda up towards the Ledro valley, a cycle and walking route since 2004. Easy to moderate, with huge lake views, and only a short spin along the shore from Torbole.

Getting to Torbole

Verona Villafranca is the closest airport, about an hour and a quarter by car via the A22 motorway. Milan Bergamo is the other common option at roughly two hours, and Bologna has a direct train to Rovereto. Many visitors simply rent a car, but shared and private airport transfers to Garda Trentino are also available.

By rail, Rovereto is the nearest station, served by Italian, Austrian and German trains, and Trentino Trasporti buses run from there to Torbole, Riva and Arco. Buy bus tickets before boarding, as they are not sold on board.

When to ride

Thanks to its mild lake climate, Torbole is one of the few Alpine-edge spots where you can ride for much of the year, and the tourist board lists its tours as open in every month. Spring and autumn are the sweet spot: comfortable temperatures, dry rock and quieter trails. High routes such as the Altissimo and Tremalzo hold snow into late spring, so save them for summer and early autumn. July and August are hot, so start early. Choosing a bike hotel in Torbole puts you close to all of these routes, with trails starting just above the village.
