About

Johnson County Park and Recreation District rebuilt its bike park in Shawnee Mission Park and reopened it in summer 2025. Prairie Bike Park replaced the old volunteer-built pump track with machine-built jump lines, a drop zone and all-weather surfaces.

Jump lines and drops

A start hub built from rock found in the park feeds jumps of 1, 2, 3 and 6 feet. A 15 by 25 foot metal start structure drops riders into berms, rollers and progressive jumps. The lines are rated green, blue and black. A paved trail takes riders back to the top of the blue and black lines. A hub-fed progressive drop zone lets riders of all ages practice drops in a controlled space.

Flow trail and pump track

A beginner flow trail starts at the edge of the woods. The Snake River Run and the pump track got an all-weather crushed stone surface capped with limestone shavings. The bike park sits apart from the park’s singletrack trails in the woods.

Who built it

County staff built the park with help from Urban Trail Co. volunteers. Work began in fall 2024. The first bike park on this site opened in 2016.

Good to know

The park is in Shawnee Mission Park at 7900 Renner Road, on the line between Shawnee and Lenexa. Trails close in bad weather, so check the county’s trail status line before you ride. Fees and hours are not listed for the bike park itself.
