About

Sugar Mountain Resort is a ski area in Avery County, North Carolina. In summer the Summit Express chairlift carries riders to the 5,300 foot summit, and Sugar Mountain Bike Park offers lift-served trails back down.

Trails

The park has beginner and intermediate trails as well as expert downhill terrain. Lines include rollers, small dips and table tops. Full-face helmets are required on any expert downhill trail.

Tickets and rentals

For 2026 an adult full-day ticket is $58 and a junior full day is $45, with half-day options too. A summer season pass costs $350 for adults. Rental bikes come with a helmet and knee pads. An adult full-day rental is $175, and rentals are first come, first served.

Lessons and tours

New riders can book a one-hour lesson for $70 for the first person, or a short half-hour tour. Additional riders can join for a lower add-on fee, up to four people. Bikes, gear and lift tickets are not included in lesson prices.

Good to know

In 2026 the park opened Memorial Day weekend, then ran Fridays to Sundays from early July to Labor Day, 10am to 6pm. Schedules can change with weather. For lessons and tours, email or call the resort’s bike desk.
