MTB Lessons in Špindlerův Mlýn – Krkonošská Bajkovna
ITC-licensed MTB coaching and guided rides in the Krkonoše
About
If you are looking for MTB lessons in Špindlerův Mlýn, Krkonošská Bajkovna is a dedicated cycling school based at the Adventure Park in the heart of the Krkonoše resort. It teaches children, adults and seniors how to ride off-road with more confidence, and it also runs guided mountain bike and e-bike outings and a rental fleet, so you can turn up without your own bike.
The school describes itself as a team of professional instructors holding the Czech ITC licence – the national, ministry-accredited qualification for off-road cycling instructors. The project is led by Karel Königsmark, with former Czech national team fourcross and downhill racer Téra Votavová acting as instructor and expert guarantor of the teaching programme, alongside local rider and founding member Jarda Jonáš.
Because the school teaches every age group, it works well for mixed families: parents can take a private session while children join a group or a day camp, and everyone can meet up later for a gentle guided ride. Lessons focus on the fundamentals that make off-road riding safer and more fun – body position, braking, cornering and choosing a line – before moving on to rocks, roots and steeper ground. Riders who already have the basics can use a session to prepare for bike park laps or longer mountain days.

The riding around Špindlerův Mlýn
- Bikepark Špindlerův Mlýn on Medvědín – lift-served flow and downhill lines above the town
- Krkonoše National Park cycle routes – marked forest roads and climbs towards the main ridge and mountain chalets
- Labský důl and the Elbe valley – gentler valley riding that suits families and first-timers
The Krkonoše are the highest mountains in Czechia, so there is plenty of variety within a short ride of town, from family-friendly valley roads to long climbs with big views across the border into Poland. A local instructor will know which routes are open to bikes and which suit your level on the day, which takes a lot of the guesswork out of riding in a national park.
When to ride
Lessons and camps run through the summer season, from late spring into autumn, depending on snow on the higher ground. Camp dates and the current price list are published on the school’s website, so check there before you plan your trip.
Early-season and late-autumn days can be cool and wet on the higher slopes, while July and August bring the most settled weather and the busiest trails. If you prefer quieter riding, June and September are often a good compromise between reliable conditions and fewer visitors.
Getting to Špindlerův Mlýn
The nearest major airport is Prague Václav Havel. From there it is about two hours by car via the D10 motorway towards Mladá Boleslav and on through Vrchlabí. Wrocław in Poland is an alternative at about three hours’ drive. Regular buses also connect Vrchlabí with the resort.
Tips for your ride
- Book ahead in July and August, when camps and private sessions fill quickly.
- Mountain weather changes fast – pack a waterproof layer even on sunny mornings.
- If you are new to off-road riding, start with a private lesson before joining a guided tour.
- Respect national park rules and stay on marked cycle routes outside the bike park.
