About

Looking for mtb lessons in Kamloops? Adventuring Into Life is a qualified local team that knows the trails around Kamloops inside out.

For mtb lessons Kamloops families and adults keep coming back to, Adventuring Into Life (AIL) blends mountain bike coaching with outdoor adventure. Based in Kamloops and serving the North Okanagan, the team runs kids’ camps, after-school programmes, women’s clinics and private lessons, with a strong focus on inclusion and fun.

AIL’s lead mountain bike coaches are certified through PMBIA or GSMBC at Level 1 or higher, and every lead coach holds current first aid. Coaches working with young people have criminal record checks including vulnerable-sector screening, and every coach completes AIL’s own training before leading a group. Early learning leaders are qualified Early Childhood Educators.

What they offer

  • Private lessons – one-to-one, semi-private or small-group sessions for kids (from age 5) and adults, starting with a quick skills assessment.
  • Learn-to-ride – short sessions or a three-lesson package for young children getting off balance bikes.
  • Youth programmes – spring youth biking (ages 3–13) and Kamloops summer camps (ages 5–13).
  • Girls’ adventure camps – for ages 9–13 in Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon and Cranbrook.
  • Women’s programmes – MTB clinics and bike retreats in BC and abroad.
  • Everyone Rides – an inclusive programme with adaptive coaching.

AIL’s coaching style is playful but structured. Sessions mix bike skills with time outdoors, so children build balance, braking and trail confidence while also learning to enjoy nature. Adults get the same thoughtful approach, with lessons that start from where you are rather than where you think you should be. The team can also arrange group bookings and community programmes outside Kamloops, including in the Okanagan, on request.

The riding around Kamloops

  • Kamloops Bike Ranch – the city’s famous freeride and jump park with a pump track.
  • Kenna Cartwright Nature Park – the largest municipal park in BC, with a big network of trails.
  • Harper Mountain – trails and downhill riding just east of the city.

When to ride

Kamloops is one of the driest, sunniest places in BC, so the season starts early. AIL runs spring break camps in March, after-school programmes from April to June and again in September and October, and summer camps through July and August. Pro D day camps and weekend birthday parties fill the gaps, so there is something on for much of the year. Registration windows open well before each season, so it pays to join the mailing list.

Midsummer temperatures in Kamloops regularly climb past 30°C, so camps and lessons often make the most of cooler mornings. Spring and autumn are lovely times to ride here, with firm, grippy trails and pleasant temperatures, which is why the after-school programmes run in those seasons. Wildfire smoke can occasionally affect late-summer sessions, and AIL will keep families informed if plans need to change.

Getting to Kamloops

Kamloops Airport (YKA) has direct flights from Vancouver and Calgary. By car, the city lies where the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) meets the Coquihalla (Highway 5), about four hours from Vancouver.

Tips for your ride

  • Most camps ask riders to bring their own bike and a properly fitted helmet.
  • Private lessons usually take place at the Juniper or Dufferin trail systems; the exact spot is confirmed when you book.
  • Summer camp registration opens in January, so plan ahead for mtb lessons in Kamloops during peak season.
  • Bring plenty of water and sunscreen – Kamloops summers are hot.
