About

Looking for guided mtb tours in Squamish? Ride BC is a qualified local team that knows the trails around Squamish inside out.

If you are looking for a mountain bike guide in Squamish who knows the trails because he helped build them, Ride BC is well worth a look. This small, locally run outfit offers private guided rides and coaching sessions on the famous Squamish network, tailoring every outing to the group rather than running riders through a fixed itinerary.

Ride BC was founded in 2015 by James, a long-time Squamish trail builder and former trails director and lead builder for SORCA, the local trail association. James holds a PMBI Level 3 coaching certification, and the company states that its private rides are led by PMBI-certified guides. He personally briefs any guide who leads your ride, so the local knowledge is passed straight on to you.

What they offer

  • Private Guided Ride – four hours on the trails, morning or afternoon slot, for up to five riders, with coaching tips built in.
  • Premium Full Day Guided Ride – up to six hours with James, including a shuttle lap, a light café lunch and pick-up from your accommodation.
  • Private Coaching Session – a four-hour skills session for first-timers through to experienced riders.
  • Flexible 3-Session Clinic – three private sessions with the same coach, spaced out so you can practise in between.
  • Multi-day trips and rentals – planned holidays plus Norco trail and e-bike hire for guided riders.

Because every booking is private, Ride BC suits couples, families and small groups of friends who want a day shaped entirely around them. Beginners can expect patient, practical coaching on flowing trails, while strong riders can ask for steeper lines, slabs and the hidden loamers that rarely appear on a first visit. The guides can also mix pedal and e-bike riders in the same group, and shuttle uplifts can be added to squeeze in more descending. A nice bonus is riding trails that the founder built himself, such as The Donut and Pamplemousse, with the stories behind them thrown in.

The riding around Squamish

  • Diamond Head and Alice Lake – rooty, rocky singletrack north of town, including some of the best-known descents in the corridor.
  • Garibaldi Highlands – steep, technical riding close to town with classic Squamish granite and loam.
  • Valleycliffe and the Smoke Bluffs – the south end of town, famous for granite slabs, tight tech and short, punchy climbs.

When to ride

One of the great things about Squamish is that the riding season is almost year-round – the woods usually only hold snow for a few weeks in winter. Late spring through early autumn brings the driest trails and longest evenings, while the high alpine routes only open during the brief snow-free window in mid to late summer. Peak season gets busy, so book early.

Getting to Squamish

Squamish sits on the Sea-to-Sky Highway (Highway 99) between Vancouver and Whistler. The nearest major airport is Vancouver International (YVR); from there the drive takes about 1 hour 15 minutes, and it is about an hour from downtown Vancouver. Regular coach shuttles also run along the corridor if you would rather not hire a car, although having your own vehicle makes reaching trailheads much easier.

Tips for your ride

  • Be honest about your level when booking so your guide can pick the right mix of slabs, flow and tech.
  • Squamish granite is grippy but unforgiving – knee pads and gloves are a sensible addition.
  • Bring plenty of water and snacks; four hours of riding with climbs goes quickly.
  • If you are renting, share your height and preferences in advance so the bike is set up before you arrive.
